Rob Richardson, Owner/Head Instructor

2nd Degree Black belt under Kurtis Taylor (Cobra BJJ Tuscaloosa)

“Coach Rob began his Jiu Jitsu journey in late 2010 with the USAF Combatives Program, where he first attended the Basic Combatives Instructor course, followed by the Senior Combatives Instructor course, and helped instruct junior officers who attended the Air & Space Basic Course at Maxwell AFB. After experiencing a small taste of what Jiu Jitsu had to offer, he officially started training in early 2011 and never looked back. After receiving his purple belt in early 2015, he made the decision to establish what would eventually become Richardson Jiu Jitsu, and has been following his passion of training and teaching Jiu Jitsu since February 2016.”

Nick Shoupe, Assistant Coach

Black belt under Rob Richardson/Kurtis Taylor

“Coach Nick was looking to improve his grappling before re-enlisting in the Air Force Reserves, so he began training with Rob in early 2015. From the day he started, he was hooked, going from 1-2 days a week in the early months to attending every available class within the first year. The opportunity to help teach both the Kids and Adult Fundamentals programs not only added valuable training days, but the coveted title of Coach as well. Nick is a HOMEGROWN black belt at Richardson Jiu Jitsu, which means he has received every promotion from RJJ. He came for the training, but stayed for the friends and teammates he’s made along the way.”

Dustin Meyers

First Degree Black belt under Rob Richardson/Kurtis Taylor

“Coach Dustin began his grappling journey with a strong wrestling foundation, competing at the national level in high school before transitioning seamlessly into Jiu Jitsu, to which he has over 19 years of dedicated training. His commitment to martial arts continued through his service in the United States Marine Corps, where he had the opportunity to train internationally and absorb a wide range of techniques and philosophies. Today, he brings that deep knowledge and real-world experience to the mats — offering students a unique and well-rounded perspective on the art of grappling.”

JP Walker

Black belt under Rob Richardson/Kurtis Taylor

“Coach JP possesses a comprehensive and extensive background in grappling, cultivated through 7 years of wrestling, followed by a decade of Jiu Jitsu training. This combination has equipped him with a versatile skill set, bringing not only the knowledge of foundational takedowns to the table, but the transition and control that occurs after the takedown ends and Jiu Jitsu begins. A highly valued member of the team since late 2015, like Coach Nick, he has received every promotion possible under Richardson Jiu Jitsu.”
